Philippians 4:6
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

You may ask, “Why should I be thankful when it is not well with me?” God is a very practical God. For example, when He sent Moses to rescue Israel from Egypt, Moses protested, and in summary, he said it would be suicidal for one man to take on the superpower of the day. God did not label him a rebellious man, but rather, showed Moses a couple of signs to reassure him that He was with him.

Why then, will God want you to give thanks when all is not well; when you just lost your job, relationship, or a loved one, or when you have a serious sickness? I believe it is because there is something good in every bad and ugly situation if you look hard enough.

You will be thanking Him not for the bad and ugly, but for the good in the bad and ugly. Goliath was bad and ugly news to Israel, but David saw the good; a wife and money. You may be single and lonely, but there is a good side to this bad and ugly situation.

My wife often tells me I like sending her to do things for me. I say, “Can I have some tea? Can I eat this? Can I . . . ?” At least, if you are single, the good news is there is no one to send you.

There is good in every bad and ugly situation. Look for it and give God thanks!
