Another person also told me he was always being assailed with negative thoughts of suicide. There is no voice without a person. The devil is always trying to seize the command center of the body, the mind because it gives the final approval for every action. Scripture admonishes us to cast down evil imaginations and thoughts. Jeremiah 4:14 states, “O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?” God described the people of Jerusalem as people with vain thoughts. What is in your heart or spirit manifests as a thought. Jesus said an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil things. When your heart is clean, your thoughts will be clean. How can you clean your heart or spirit? By washing it. How can you wash something that is invisible? The word of God can. The thing which is supposed to cure us is often bitter and difficult to swallow, yet the same bitter pill is supposed to bring relief and joy when the pain or sickness disappears. God’s word is like that; it is bitter-sweet. There are many people with sick bodies, relationships, marriages, character, spirits, and finances. The way out is the medicine of God’s word. In Revelation 10:9, John describes the effect of the word of God in our lives. It reads, “And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up, and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.” To take the bitterness of a failed relationship, demonic oppression, or a difficult past out of your life, you will have to first embrace the ‘bitterness’ of God’s word.
