The fear of God is important if you are to walk in obedience to God. It motivates us to do what is pleasing in the sight of God.

The fear of God can be found in an individual, a family or even within a community.

Genesis 20:11

And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.

Abraham settled in Gerar briefly and was forced to lie about his relationship with Sarah his wife. He told the King, Abimelech that Sarah was his sister because he feared he would be killed because of her.

He observed that the fear of the Lord was not in that place. What did he see and how did he draw this conclusion? I want us to examine a couple of things.

1. Sexual sins are indicative of the absence of the fear of God.

In Gerar, you could be killed because of your wife. Adultery was common.

2. Murder is indicative of the a absence of the fear of God.

You could be easily murdered in Gerar.

Do you fear God? Walking in total obedience is the fear of God.
