1 Kings 8:9

“There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel when they came out of the land of Egypt.”

Moses built a tent or tabernacle for the Lord and within it was the ark. The ark of the covenant of the Lord contained the presence of God. Inside the ark was; the golden pot which had manna, Aaron’s rod or stick that miraculously budded and produced fruit overnight and the Ten Commandments which were written in stone.

Finally, Solomon built a temple to house the presence of God in place of the tabernacle. Inside the ark at this time was only one thing: ten commandments which were written in stone. Why was this so? There is something we can learn from this.

The manna represented the spoken word of God, the rod was symbolic of the power of God and the tables of stone represented the written word of God.

The written word of God supersedes whatever voice we may have heard or any sign or wonder we may have seen. The written word of God supersedes all. Let’s heed to it.
