It is possible to be spiritual and foolish. When I say spiritual in this context, I am talking about someone who has gifts of revelation, like discernment and word of knowledge. You can have a revelation and still make foolish decisions because decisions are largely the function of the brain.

I have personally come across spiritual but foolish people. God pronounced judgment on Israel’s conduct through Hosea and he stated this fact.

Hosea 9:7
“The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it:the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.”

Two people are singled out as being foolish; they are the prophet and the spiritual man. How can you be spiritual and foolish? Two reasons are offered.

The first is iniquity: “for the multitude of thine iniquity.”
When you live in sin it clouds your mind and judgments. This is because sin leads to deception and it’s the deception that makes you make poor decisions. For example, when you get money through fraud your mind can justify your actions but ultimately you could land in jail.

The second is hatred:” the great hatred.”
When you hate someone it can blind your mind to rational thinking. Hatred leads to bitterness. This can trap you in the past and cause you to make foolish decisions.

Let’s avoid iniquity and hatred lest we become spiritual but foolish.
