The word “Proxy” means to function as a substitute for another. For example, when someone does not like you, and teaches your children, the person may persecute your children because of the dislike he has for you. In other words, the person is waging a proxy war against you; your children become your substitute.

Psalms 69:9 reads, “For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.”

When you are a zealous Christian your character can easily expose the weaknesses and limitations of others. For example, there are unbeliever husbands who criticize and insult the pastors of their wives although they don’t know them personally. Sometimes, this is because the pastor may unconsciously be exposing the moral failures of the husband, because the wife is bound to make comparisons. A proxy war may start against the pastor and the church.

The word “Reproach” means to discredit. People who hate God can mount a proxy war against the children of God. Sometimes Christians are persecuted in the office, school, at home or by friends. The reason is, it is a proxy war against God. That explains why people sometimes hate you without a cause.

Stand firm, because it is a sign that the glory of God is upon you.
