Psalm 119:85-87
“The proud have digged pits for me, which are not after thy law. All thy commandments are faithful: they persecute me wrongfully; help thou me. They had almost consumed me upon earth; but I forsook not thy precepts.”
The word “objection” means a reason for disagreeing. I am not a lawyer, but one thing I like about the court is when I hear a lawyer say, “Objection,” and shows some reasons why he disagrees with something. After listening to the argument, the judge may say, “Sustained.”
God is a judge, and we must learn to argue our case in prayer with His laws; thus the Scriptures.
In this prayer, David raises an objection against the attacks of his enemies before the judge of all men: God Himself.
He began by stating his objection, “The proud have digged pits for me.” Not only that, but he also argued that “they persecute me wrongfully.” He raised an objection against unfair attacks because they could not be supported by God’s law: “not after thy law.” He continued to argue that since the attacks were unlawful, the Lord should help him based on the credibility of His own Word.
