An unbeliever can easily come into the Kingdom with a lot of baggage; things he cannot give up. It could be a relationship, sinful desire, or pleasure. However, a new convert must leave the world behind. Second Corinthians 5:17 reads, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
To leave the old behind, you must rely on your heart, not on your mind. When I became a Christian I had to break my relationship with my old girlfriend. Though I was in love with her, I wanted to trust the Lord with my heart. I realized it was a wrong thing to move with someone who was not born again.
Second Corinthians 6:14 states it clearly, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers.” Because I did not want to disobey God, I left her behind.
Logically, it did not make sense to me because she was not a bad girl and had done nothing wrong to me. I thought about it and decided not to put my trust in her, but in God. I did not follow my emotions, I did not follow my mind; I just relied on my heart and the Word of God.
If you want to succeed in your Christian walk, leave the old baggage behind!
