Riches make you prone to certain diseases. God identified three diseases of the rich in Sodom.
Ezekiel 16:49
“Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.”
Fullness of bread means rich in material things. The three diseases of Sodom were:
1. PrideMany rich people are proud. This is because riches make you self sufficient to the point where you even think you don’t even need God.
2. IdlenessPleasure. Riches can easily lead you into harmful pleasures like womanizing, drugs addictions and harmful lusts.
3. Exploitation Sodom did not strengthen the hand of the poor. I have seen husbands exploit unemployed wives and the rich exploit the ignorant and weak.
May God deliver us from the diseases of the rich if we are or become rich!
