Daniel 1:8
“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”
One thing we all have to do is to survive in this difficult and harsh world. We all have to work and earn money to pay for our needs.
The ‘king’ or ‘god’ of this world – Satan – has alternative ways, methods, principles and values of survival to offer to us. He has “meat” for us. He offered Jesus stones to turn to bread to survive.
Sometimes, to survive in the corporate world, you may be pressurized to give sexual favors to climb the ladder; sometimes you may be forced to start drinking and swearing to fit into the office culture; you may have to eat “the king’s meat.”
Daniel did not compromise. He decided to live by God’s word. Jesus said in Matthew in 4:4 that “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” Over time, his countenance was better than all the children who ate the king’s meat.
As you strive to live by God’s Word, you may look like a loser in the short run but in the long term, your life will be better!
