Romans 12:2
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
You can only be under God’s control when you are able to surrender your will to Him. One of the most difficult things to do is to surrender your will to someone or something. You can surrender everything; your money, your time, your effort, your body, etc but not your will. Why? Because your will is your power to choose.
If you come to a point where you can say, “God, I am not going to make any decision, I want you to make the decisions for me, tell me who I should marry, etc,” you have surrendered your will to Him.
Jesus never struggled with his flesh. We never read that He wanted to fornicate, no! What He struggled with was His will. A servant has no will. If the master says go, he goes. He cannot say, “It is cloudy weather so I will not go to work.” If his master calls and says, “Get up and come,” he goes.
In Luke 22:42, in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed and said “….Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” Jesus knew the price he had to pay for going to the cross. He wished he could turn things around. He surrendered His will finally to His father because that was the only way to fulfill His purpose.
You cannot experience the will of God and not go through pain. Once you follow His will, it will take you to the cross. You cannot escape it. You may have to leave some friends behind, in order for His will to be done in your life. “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?” (2 Corinth 6:14)
But some of you are still hanging out with your worldly friends. God is saying to you, “Come off from among them and be ye separated.” Your master will choose your friends for you.
People get worried about what will happen if they surrender their will to God. They say to themselves, “Maybe He will lead me to marry that man in the choir who does not use deodorant and wears short trousers. I don’t want that kind of man.” Such people say it is dangerous to release your will to God.
The devil puts all kinds of ideas in your mind. He discredits God in your mind and tells you, “If you let God choose for you, it will not be well with you.” Who told you? That is a lie! God said, “He will do exceedingly and abundantly all that you ask or even think.” God will give you a brother who is far beyond your imagination. God will give you a wife who is above your imagination.
Let us learn to follow the will of God.
Pray to God and ask him for grace to surrender your will to Him.
