“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:”
Eph. 4:15
How do you measure maturity? Is it by age, intelligence or what? Maturity can be measured by your ability to speak the truth with a coating of love. Many are hardly able to speak sincerely for the fear of rejection. We end up as actors unable to speak the truth about a relationship, job, difficulty or weakness.
It is more difficult to walk to the girl of your dreams, look her in the eye and say, “Girl, I don’t know how you feel about me but I am hopelessly in love with you”. It is easier to take her to an expensive restaurant than to speak the truth about your real feelings.
It takes maturity to look into the eyes of a loving savior and admit, “I am a sinner and scared of going to hell; save me!” Most unbelievers display a macho exterior but shiver in the night when darkness falls. When friends are gone and the eyes begin to yield to sleep, they wonder “Is this a call to eternal sleep?”
When there are skeletons in the wardrobe it may be difficult to speak the truth. Without maturity, it may be difficult to speak the truth in love!
Now, tell me, how mature are you? Maturity is to become like Jesus!
