In the Old Testament, the sacrifices offered to God were burnt upon the altar with fire.
Symbols played a great part in the Old Testament. A symbol is something that stands for something else. I want us to examine some symbols.

Leviticus 1:7
“And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire.”

The altar.
The sacrifices were placed upon the altar. Nowadays, we don’t have a physical altar; we place all we do “on the altar of the name of Jesus.” That’s why we must do everything in his name.

The fire.
The fire represents the Holy Spirit. Remember that on the day of Pentecost, he manifested as tongues of fire.

The wood.
What I find interesting is the wood; although it was to be burnt, it was not to be arranged in a haphazard way. It had to be placed in order.

Sometimes, there is the tendency to think that the Holy Spirit only operates in disorder. He can also operate within order.
Miracles, healings etc can also happen in an organized environment. The wood that produced the “fire” was placed in order.

After all, God structured night, day and the seasons in an organized way.

Be led by the Spirit and know that the Holy Spirit can operate within order and disorder.
