Mark 16:9-11
“Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.”
Many times, people want to chain us to our background; they want to relate to us based on what they knew about us and not what we are now. Sometimes, students are judged based on their past academic performance rather than their present. A teacher can have a preconception that you will fail and will not even bother reading your script but yet still give you a mark. People can judge you based on your color, education or gender without even bothering to know who you are. People can rejoice that you are saved but still deny you of credibility based on what they knew about you.
When Jesus resurrected, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene but the disciples disbelieved her. She was not seen as a credible witness because of her past:  “Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils” Surely not Mary, anybody but Mary. They must have been thinking maybe the demons are back.
Remember God does not relate with you based on your past so don’t let people chain you to your background. Break free!
