One way God honours us is by placing us in authority and making those who we have authority over obedient to us.
Numbers 27:20 reads, “And thou shalt put [some] of thine honor upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.”
Moses was supposed to share the honour of leadership which God had given to him with Joshua. Israel was going to be obedient to Joshua, their new leader as they were to Moses.
It is an honour for children to be obedient to their parents, wives to their husbands, church members to their pastors, students to their teachers, and employees to their employers etc.
What can make us qualified for this honour which makes those we have authority over obedient to us? We must develop the heart of a servant. Remember, Joshua was always referred to as the servant of Moses.
Power in the hands of a tyrant can be dangerous and exploitative. Let’s develop the heart to serve, and God who knows the hearts of all men will shower this honor on us.
Leadership is about serving others, not taking advantage of them!
