There are people who are born again, baptized with the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues yet, idol worshipers. Saul was anointed King by God, yet still, the Bible described him as an idol worshiper although he did not literally have an idol. Idols are not only created by hands; they are also created in the hearts of men.
“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.Because thou hast rejected the Word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.” 1 Samuel 15:23
The word idol means an object of extreme devotion. According to this scripture, stubbornness is a sign of idolatry. It could be a person, an object or even an idea.
Stubbornness means to refuse to change your idea or mind. Sometimes, when we are confronted with the scriptures or the Word of God, we stubbornly refuse to change. For example, you may choose to marry an unbeliever although God’s Word clearly shows that it is wrong. Your devotion to the person can be greater than the Word and it manifests as stubbornness.
Idolatry could even be to a location or church. God may say move from this location or church but your devotion to the place will not allow you and it will manifest as stubbornness. Stubbornness towards the clear revealed will of God is counted in heaven as idolatry.
Don’t be stubborn because it’s the same as idolatry!
