Corruption occurs when an original is altered by removing or adding something. When you add sugar to water, you have corrupted it because water is tasteless. The devil corrupted the word when he told Adam and Eve they will not die if they ate of the forbidden fruit.

2 Corinthians 2:17

“For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.”

This scripture makes us understand that “many” corrupt the word of God.

We tend to pick and choose what we want to obey and disobey.

For example, the Bible commands us to love one another but we can corrupt this through racism, sexism, and bigotry.

What can we do to avoid corrupting God’s word?

  1. Sincerity: “but as of sincerity”

Sincerity means honesty. We must be honest to accept our failures and repent of sin when we are confronted with it. Excuses tend to justify our actions and corrupt God’s word.

  1. Awareness: “in the sight of God”

When we are aware of the invisible presence of God, it helps us to be sincere, especially when there is no one to impress. There are many things we dare not do in public because people are watching us. God is watching you.

Be sincere and be aware of God’s presence to prevent corrupting God’s word.
