What are the three most important big virtues in Christianity and how are they expressed?
Paul said, the big three are; faith, hope and love; “And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13.
They are greater than power or spiritual gifts. By our human standards, we cherish people who have spiritual gifts more than character but heaven has a different opinion. One reason is, the big three help you to maintain relationships; be it with God, in marriage, in family, with friends or even to your enemies.
How can you know if you have any of the big three? Let’s see if you manifest any of them.
1 Thessalonians 1:3
“Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;”
Faith is manifested by your work, thus what you do. What you do shows what you believe in and not what you say. For example, you cannot say you are believing God for a spouse when you have already chosen an unbeliever.
Love is manifested by labor. Labor is, ”expenditure of physical or mental effort especially when difficult or compulsory”. You cannot say you love me when you abandon me when I am sick.
Hope is manifested by patience. Why do people wait for hours at an airport to catch a plane? Because they have hope in something they cannot see.
Do you have the big three?
