KAKRA BAIDEN: AIR POWER DEVOTIONAL

2 Chronicles 20:21
“And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy [endureth] forever.”

What does the term “Beauty of Holiness” mean?

Jehoshaphat appointed singers to sing before his army as he went to war. They were to sing about the beauty of holiness. When they began to sing, they started singing about the “Mercy of God.” The beauty of holiness, apart from all other meanings it may have, means mercy. Why mercy?

There is always the tendency to be unmerciful to people whose weakness you do not have. For example, if you don’t have a problem with drinking, you can easily be unmerciful to a drunkard because you don’t understand him.

God is holy without any sin yet He is merciful to sinful humanity. That is the beauty of His holiness – when you can be merciful to people who are obviously weaker than you and don’t deserve it.

Be merciful when you are in a stronger position, in relation to your sick dad who did not take care of you, wicked friends who do not speak well of you, and an employed spouse!
