Jonah 1:8-9
“So they asked him, tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What kind of work do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you? He answered, “I am a Hebrew and I worship the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.”
I hope you know the story of Jonah? The Lord asked him to go and preach the gospel at Nineveh but instead he fled and boarded a ship to Tarshish. As a result, a great storm from the Lord came upon them.
This is part of his dialogue with the sailors as they tried to find out the cause of the storm. You will notice he started praising and boasting about the God he served but he was fully in disobedience. This is what I call spiritualized disobedience.
There are some people who become spiritual and start singing worship songs when they are quarreling with someone else. There are some who have so called visions and dreams which seem to justify their sin and disobedience. There are lazy students and people who hide under the cover of Christian meetings to dodge their responsibility.
Let us call disobedience what it is and not spiritualize it.
