God made a covenant or an agreement with Abraham that He would bless him and his descendants if they obeyed and served Him. This agreement was to extend to unborn generations. That is why blessings or curses can extend to succeeding generations.

I have come across families who made agreements with other gods and suffered great consequences. I have also seen families enjoy generational blessings because of the blessing of God. The agreement was ratified in several ways. One of them was to swear an oath.

Let’s examine Moses’ charge to Israel concerning this.

Deuteronomy 29:12-19
“You are standing here in order to enter into a covenant with the Lord your God… to confirm you this day as his people, that he may be your God as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I am making this covenant, with its oath, not only with you who are standing here with us today in the presence of the Lord our God but also with those who are not here today.”

Are you a victim of a generational curse or a beneficiary of a generation blessing?
If you are a victim, give your life to Jesus and pray for mercy. If you are a beneficiary; serve God and don’t take His grace for granted.
