Sometimes the best way to deal with a problem is to keep silent; don’t say or do anything. What time is this?
Amos 5:12-13
“For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts. Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times, for the times are evil.”
This scripture reveals when you must do this. Let’s examine it.
- When you are in a hostile environment. “The poor are deprived of justice.”
Sometimes there is no fairness in your marriage, industry, or workplace. - When you are vulnerable. When you are “innocent or poor,” you can be easily harmed because you may lack knowledge, strength, money, or resources.
- When the people involved are more powerful.
They can control “the courts” or determine the outcome.
Your best response may be silence and time.
Silence because any response could lead to a worse outcome.
Time because it can change things.
When it’s raining and you don’t have an umbrella, just wait for the rain to stop. Time can change the political, economic, or spiritual environment. It can change the understanding and mood about something.
Time can help you to build capacity and change you. Sometimes you are even wrong and time will prove it.
Are you in an evil time? Pray for discernment to know when it’s time to keep silent.
