2 Kings 19:30
“And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.”
God promised to make Israel fruitful after their captivity. To this end, He asked them to “take root downward, and bear fruit upward.” There are great lessons we can glean from this.
First of all, your experiences or background should not keep you from being fruitful. You may have had a bad marriage, suffered a health or financial challenge, backslidden, or even been disgraced. You can recover from that captivity!
Secondly, you must take root downward. This implies several things. Let’s examine a few;
1. Sacrifice: To take root, a seed has to be sacrificed. You may have to sacrifice your pride, ego, friends, a lifestyle, or sin to recover from a setback.
2. Humility: To take root, you must go downward. Sometimes you have to humble yourself before God, go back to school, apologize, or even take a lowly job.
3. Buried: Seeds are buried alone. This may signify loneliness, sadness, rejection, and even ridicule. When you are buried, you are unnoticed and people may even walk over you.
Finally, one day that buried seed will shoot up, grow, and become a tree that bears fruits. At that time people may praise your beautiful fruits, forgetting that beautiful fruits are a product of buried seeds.
Don’t lose hope, for weeping may endure for a night, but joy definitely comes in the morning!
