It is generally more difficult to advise the rich than the poor because they assume that their wealth proves their wisdom. Some even say, “if you were wiser than me, you would have more money.”

That was the case of Israel when they rebelled against God because of their prosperity. God said:

“I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.” Jeremiah 22:21.

This form of pride and rebellion has spiritual consequences. God said:
“The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.” Jeremiah 22:22.

They were going to be “eaten” up and taken into “captivity.” Which means they were going to be destroyed. Prosperity can make you develop toxic habits, a sinful lifestyle, and dangerous addictions.

Let’s be obedient to God’s word to avoid destruction.
