One way to know the nature of something is to judge it by its fruit. I once saw a mango tree that looked different. I only discovered it was a mango tree when I saw the fruit.
Jesus said, “By their fruits, you shall know them.” This is an important key to exercising good judgment because you can be easily deceived by your senses.

How can you identify true prophets who have been sent by God? God showed Jeremiah how to identify them.

Jeremiah 23:21-22
“I did not send these prophets, yet they have run with their message; I did not speak to them, yet they have prophesied. But if they had stood in my counsel, they would have proclaimed my words to my people and would have turned them from their evil ways and from their evil deeds.”

The words of true prophets sent by God must primarily and ultimately produce the fruit of repentance and holiness in the lives of their hearers. God said, “If they had stood in my counsel, they would have turned them from their evil ways.”

Jesus and John the Baptist; the greatest prophets began their ministries with these words, “repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Prophecies that produce money and sin without holiness and repentance must be re-examined.

Repentance and holiness is one characteristic that runs through the ministry of every prophet sent by God.
