The word controversy means: an argument that involves many people who strongly disagree about something. Sometimes you can see christians divided over a particular issue. It could be political, where one group of christians may favor a particular party or candidate whilst the other group may favor another. It could also be about certain practices and beliefs; whether women should wear trousers or not or can be pastors.
How can we resolve this controversy?
Ezekiel 44:24
“And in controversy they shall stand in judgment; and they shall judge it according to my judgments: and they shall keep my laws and my statutes in all mine assemblies; and they shall hallow my sabbaths”.
The first thing we must do is to “stand in judgement”: we must take a stand about what we will use to resolve the issue. We must decide to free our minds from prejudice, preconception and pride. Our interpretation should not be racial or tribal, emotional or for personal gain but rather, we must take a stand to interpret the controversy with the scriptures and scriptures alone.
The second thing we must do is to find the relevant scriptures that speak to the issue. “Judge it according to my judgements”
Finally we must act upon the scripture after we have discovered the truth.
May God help us to judge controversial issues with a spiritual mind.
