Proverbs 19:11
“The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.”

Everybody gets angry at some point in time, but how we manage our anger is important. One reason is that anger can make you say things which you will live to regret. One word wrongly said can permanently change your marriage, destroy relationships, cost you your job and make you miss God’s blessings.

What can you do when anger is threatening to hijack your reasoning?

  1. Defer or postpone your anger
The literal meaning of the Hebrew word translated discretion is intelligence. The ability to defer your anger will help you make a more intelligent decision. This is because anger clouds your judgment and leads to wrong decisions. Don’t make major decisions when you are angry, they may seem wise in the heat of the moment but when your emotions subside, you will realize you may have made a wrong decision.
  2. Don’t be too sensitive.
Your ability to “pass over a transgression” or not be too sensitive is critical if you are to make the right decision and say the right things. The temptation to retaliate is strong when you are angry but if you are able to overlook people’s transgressions you can easily keep your emotions in check.
  3. Finally, the result of being able to manage your anger is glory or beauty.
Your life, job, marriage, home and relationships will be beautiful if you can control your anger.

Follow these steps and enjoy an anger-free life!
