Isaiah 32:17
“And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.”
Peace is a wonderful gift. If you have all the money in this world and you do not have peace, you will never be happy. The very thing called contentment will escape you. When God blesses you with contentment, you will have peace.
The scripture above tells us peace is the work or product of righteousness. It also tells us it is the effect or result of righteousness. There are many who seek peace at the expense of righteousness. It is not possible!
One thing that creates peace is righteousness. If you are a wife and you are always insulting your husband, do you think there would be peace in the house? No! Why? Because you are not righteous. If you are a husband and you mistreat your wife, you will not be happy. It is because you are not righteous.
You may have a bank account full of money and still not be happy. Why? Because you are not righteous.
If you are not righteous, you get troubled when you hear a sermon on the second coming of Jesus. When you hear people preaching, you will be annoyed with them. You can be a victim of bad dreams. You will sleep and dream that you have been buried, and you will wake up shivering and shaking. You are not at peace. Why? Righteousness!
Righteousness makes you content.
Peace is not the absence of war. You can be in a time of war and yet be at peace. You can also be in peaceful times, and yet not be at peace.
In John 14:27, Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” It comes only from God.
Paul said, “….I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” He said whether I am in a good state or a bad state, I am always content. “I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.” (Phil. 4: 11-12)
This is a much surer way of being content.
Seek after righteousness and you shall have peace.
