One of the things we must guard against as Christians is compromise. This means to accept a lower standard of something. We live in a world of compromise where Christians sometimes lower the principles of God’s word to accommodate the world. What are some of the things that cultivate compromise?

Numbers 25:2
“And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.”

This verse describes how Israel bowed down to the gods of the heathen nations. Let’s examine some aspects of it.

The first is wrong associations.
“And they called the people unto their sacrifices.”
For example, I once knew a fine Christian man who backslid. It all started when he started spending time with some worldly friends after work. They began to influence him. This gradually led him down a path of drinking, womanizing, adultery, divorce and finally death.

The second is seduction by the pleasures of sin.
The people “did eat.” This signifies pleasure.
There is undeniable pleasure in sin but there is a downside as well. It separates you from God and is also transient. Eventually, it causes more problems than good. The Bible states that the pleasures of sin are for a season.

The final result is switching allegiance to serve the god of this world. The people “bowed down to their gods.”

Compromise is initiated by wrong company so watch your relationships.
