Exodus 4:25-26

“Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me. So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.”

When God made a covenant with Abraham he asked him to circumcise all the males of Israel as a sign of the covenant.  When Moses was sent by God to deliver Israel he had flouted this law by not circumcising his son. The Lord almost killed him. Zipporah, Moses wife took a stone to circumcise their son to avert this disaster.

Obedience to God can be bloody or painful. Circumcision was a painful thing so no wonder they had not done it. Most Christians have forgotten that Christianity entails suffering and pain. It’s painful to let go of a rewarding but compromising job. It’s painful to let go of a relationship that is destroying your relationship with God.

But in the end, your disobedience has even far more consequences. Moses almost died because of this. Surely, the pain of circumcision cannot be compared with the pain of death. Are you being tempted to disobey God because of pain? Remember that the alternative ; death is worse.
