The word offend means: to cause someone to feel hurt, angry, or upset by something said or done. As long as you are in a relationship with others, you are bound to be offended by them. Jesus was a very practical person and recognized the possibility of us being offended by him. I have met people who have been offended by The Lord.
Sometimes when things don’t go as we planned or expected, we may feel angry, bitter, disappointed or used. Some of these situations were created by God to further his own purposes and not ours. Our offense is manifested usually as murmuring.
“And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me“
In this context, John murmured at Jesus because he had been jailed and might have hoped the Lord will come and free him.
Sometimes people get offended with ministers because their preaching exposes their evil deeds. Such people may criticize and even insult the preacher. What they forget is that, it may be The Lord speaking through the preacher. Jesus said “he who hears you, hears me.”
It’s better not to be offended by The Lord but rather yield to his correction and guidance. It’s better to be guided by the will of God in good and bad situations because “Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place” Psalm 66:12.
